1966, a great year for English football. Who can forget those immortal words. Well, if we all start to get behind the "Back the Bid" campaign, we could be reliving the joys of '66 in 2018.
The team behind the England bid for the 2018 FIFA World CupTM has requested the support of 15 cities from across the UK, to apply to become a World Cup Host City. Sheffield is one of these cities.
It is now up to Sheffield to show mass support for the ‘Sheffield 2018' campaign and the city is urging fans to register their support on the England 2018 website to a bring the FIFA World CupTM to England in 2018 and see World Cup games hosted in Sheffield. Every fan in the country has a part to play.
The 2006 World Cup in Germany generated additional 300 million Euros and 50,000 new jobs!. The economic impact of visitor spend would be significant.
When Germany hosted 2006 FIFA World CupTM, the country's tourist industry enjoyed a $400m uplift. Hundreds of businesses benefited from two million international visitors and a total of 3.3m spectators, many of them watching on big-screens in city centres. 85,000 jobs were created by the tournament.
