Sheffield company at the forefront of technology with Jaguar C-X75 concept car

Arguably one of the most beautiful cars in the world: Jaguar’s latest concept car, the C-X75, owes thanks for part of its utter desirability to Sheffield’s specialist LED lighting company, Olmec Advanced Materials, which is responsible for the car’s state of the art interior lighting. Britain must “raise its game,” says Minister

Britain needs to “raise its game” to make sure it is not left behind by emerging markets around the world, according to Jeremy Browne MP, Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Mr Browne was speaking at the Global Manufacturing Festival’s Convention and Trade show at Sheffield City Hall.     He said: There’s a revolution taking place in the world and we choose to be wilfully neglectful of how the revolution will affect us. The world’s economy is set to expand rapidly and we need new alliances and better understandings with more countries. Our economy will grow, but we’ll be getting richer at a slower rate than other areas of the world. The UK and Europe’s share of the global economy will be smaller. Manufacturing festival throws down gauntlet to local businesses

Organisers of the Global Manufacturing Festival have thrown down the gauntlet to companies to secure new business at the event. The festival is set to attract hundreds of business leaders from around the UK and internationally to Sheffield on March 21-22 to evaluate the critical issues which assist trade with new markets. Organised by the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Marketing Sheffield, the event is a long-term commitment for the city region’s overall marketing strategy to bring people to the area. However, the festival’s key aim is to provide businesses with a platform to speak with potential new international partners which could lead to future deals being agreed. Free ticket offer for Global Manufacturing Festival

Local companies are being offered a free ticket to the Global Manufacturing Festival if they bring a business from outside of the Sheffield City Region to the popular event. Businesses which purchase a ticket for the convention and trade show at Sheffield City Hall on March 22 will be able to take a partner organisation from across the UK or internationally free of charge. The Global Manufacturing Festival is being organised by the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Marketing Sheffield. It will focus on the critical issues which enable businesses to compete and thrive in the future, including creating products for many sectors, competing on technology and building trade with new markets. Jeremy Browne MP, Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, is the latest guest speaker to be announced for the Global Manufacturing Festival. Liberal Democrat Mr Browne, who has also been Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, has worked in the private sector in finance and global communications. He will speak to more than 400 delegates at the festival’s convention and trade show which will take place in Sheffield on March 22. Apprentice Sam to be the Face of Festival

A local apprentice is being featured in the publicity for the prestigious Global Manufacturing Festival being held in Sheffield next month. Sam Biddleston of Sprotbrough, who is training at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) off Sheffield Parkway, will be the face of the Festival this year. 17-year-old Sam said: Since starting my apprenticeship last year, I've found the work very interesting and have learned valuable skills for my later career. Thanks to the good relations between all the partner companies, the AMRC is giving me opportunities that I wouldn't have at other places. The AMRC was established in 2001 as a £15 million collaboration between the University of Sheffield and aerospace giant Boeing, with support from Yorkshire Forward and the European Regional Development Fund. Up to six apprentices are taken on at the AMRC each year. Their apprenticeship programme has been running for five years and so far 11 have completed the programme. One ...

Global Manufacturing Festival set for Sheffield return

Preparations are well underway for the second Global Manufacturing Festival which will take place in Sheffield on 21-22 March 2012. Sheffield Chamber of Commerce is set to play a lead role in the project management of the festival, which aims to reaffirm the UK’s position as a global leader in advanced engineering and manufacturing innovation. The announcement comes on the day (November 8th) the Office for National Statistics put UK manufacturing output for September up 0.2 percent bringing the year to 2.0 percent.
