The Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) is a world-class manufacturing technology park providing advanced manufacturing technology solutions. Technologies on the AMP centre on materials and structures, covering metallic and composite materials; typically used in precision industries including; aerospace, automotive, medical devices, sport, environmental and energy, oil and gas, defence and construction.

Much of the research and development work undertaken on the AMP strives to improve manufacturing efficiency, for example reducing the time and processes required to take products from prototype to production, or to reduce material wastage in the manufacturing process. This has an additional benefit of reducing the power requirements and making the processes more energy efficient.

The AMP also aims to be an exemplar for the design and construction of energy efficient buildings. The AMRC’s new Rolls Royce Factory of the Future is designed to incorporate the latest environmentally sound construction techniques, minimising material usage and maximising on-site energy generation from renewable sources, including wind turbines. This will enable the building to be a totally carbon neutral factory building; believed to be the first of its kind in the UK.

Yorkshire Forward’s Environmental Energy Technology Centre (EETC), due for completion by December 2008, will provide the ideal location for companies to develop environmental energy technologies more effectively and quickly. In addition to helping develop such technologies, the building itself will be carbon neutral, powered by Europe's largest capacity hydrogen mini-grid system and including other features such as ground source heat pumps and grey water recapture systems.

Technology developed on the AMP is already being utilised in leading edge projects, such as within Formula One and the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
