Policy & Representation

Our Policy & Representation activities have been the cornerstone of Chamber activities for 150 years. Our representational legacy has allowed the Chamber to influence decisions on a wide variety  of subjects, including Transport, Regeneration, Regional Development, Sectoral Issues and Inward Investment.

All companies and businesses are subject to business influences over which they have no control – for example, red tape, business taxation and international barriers to trade. It’s our objective to ensure that your voice – whatever the size of your business – is heard when city councils and government agencies are formulating policy or consulting the business community.

Sheffield Chamber of Commerce has always owed its strength to the size and diversity of our membership. We represent nearly 2,000 businesses based in and around the city region of Sheffield. Our members include all sectors of business – retail, financial services, construction, utilities, professional firms, manufacturers, IT, digital, creative and communications, management, consultancy, transport operators and tourism.

We speak for all sizes of business from large organisations to start-up business; approximately 85% of our members are SMEs. A great number of our members now operate in the international marketplace.

Our success is based on 150 years of experience and expertise, the only organisation in the city with the resources and expertise to cover such a vast range of business policy issues and we have access where it counts: Town Hall, Regional Development Agency, Central Government, the EU in Brussels and now even with the United Nations.
