Safe and Sound Seminar, South Yorkshire
Supported by South Yorkshire Road Safety Officers
A project from the Fleetcraft Foundation for Road Safety

What is Safe & Sound?
The Safe & Sound tour has been running since early 2006 and has visited a number of UK
cities helping around 430 companies to manage their occupational road risks to date. The
event is designed to give you the facts about occupational road risks. To remove the myths
about what the Police or HSE may do following an at work collision and to provide you with
an idea on whether or not you are doing enough.

What is the Fleetcraft for Road Safety?
The foundation was founded to help reduce road deaths amongst occupational drivers. 3 at
work drivers are killed each day in the UK and much can be done to reduce this. Following
successful action in Sweden, the Foundation is trying to encourage UK companies to follow
the same approach. We believe that managing occupational road risks should be cost
neutral or cost saving, if they’re not then they’re not for you.

Why are the events free of charge?
We recognise that this is a new topic in the boardroom and something to which many
companies are burying their heads in the sand over; we want to remove any obstacles in the
way of reducing road casualties. We provide you with free training, a free risk visit,
occupational drivers handbook and as much advice as you need.
Why should my organisation be concerned about occupational road risk?
In the UK 1 in every 500 occupational drivers is driving whilst disqualified, that means that
they’re uninsured too. Whether they’re driving a company car or their own claiming mileage
there are still implications for you as their employer. We will lose 1000 people this year who
were just driving as part of their job; we want to reduce the chance of this being one of yours.

What will I get out of the seminar?
Our seminars aim to provide you with the most up to date and effective information possible.
Driver policy documents, company risk calculators and an occupational driver’s handbook
are provided for all delegates. You should also find more information on where to go for
help, what everyone else is doing and to see if you’re doing enough.
Feedback from other attendees
Many people feel that because the event is free, they will either get some sort of hard sell or
the event won’t be worth coming to. Over 98% of attendees have told us that they found the
event very useful and that they would recommend it to others. If you don’t believe us, ask
them. We can give you details of people who have attended so that you can ask them
yourself.

Who does pay for the event?
The foundation is supported by Fleetcraft who are the authors of the Occupational Drivers
handbook which is published by the stationary office. Fleetcraft uses police traffic expertise
to work on road safety matters concerning all user groups. Safe & Sound is also supported
by Citroen UK for the supply of vehicles, the Department of Transport for publication
materials and statistical support and Thatcham for video material.
