Duke of Kent visits Sheffield health care company Print E-mail

The efforts of Sheffield-based B. Braun Medical to fight MRSA and other hospital acquired infections has been showcased to HRH The Duke of Kent. HRH the Duke of Kent discovered how the company is working in partnership with the NHS to keep patients safe when he visited B. Braun Medical’s Thorncliffe Park headquarters.

The Government has made tackling hospital infections, such as MRSA and C-Difficile, a major priority. B. Braun Medical has developed a range of ground-breaking medical hygiene products including alcohol-based hand-rubs and anti-bacterial washes and gels which eradicate MRSA from the skin. These are now being used in hospitals throughout the NHS in England, Wales and Scotland.
B.Braun Medical, which has its UK headquarters in Sheffield, manufactures a wide range of market leading surgical instruments and is spearheading the drive to bring decontamination and sterilisation services up to the highest European standards.

The company’s Sterilog division is working with clusters of NHS Trusts in the West Midlands and West Yorkshire after securing major contracts to develop and run state-of-the-art decontamination ‘super centres’ which incorporate the latest processing technologies and some of the most modern systems for tracking surgical instruments.

During his visit the Duke was also shown pioneering medical equipment developed by B. Braun Medical in areas such as hip and knee replacement and heart surgery.
