South Yorkshire’s leading law firm is helping to brighten up Christmas for young patients at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

The Sheffield office of DLA Piper was one of the first businesses in the region to get behind the annual Snowflake appeal to raise money for vital medical research. They have sponsored one of the giant luminous snowflakes which will help light up the Western Bank hospital building during the festive season.

Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity had asked companies to buy a snowflake to help raise money towards a £250,000 campaign to fund vital research in conditions such as brittle bones, asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, and newborn screening.

Stephen Sly, Sheffield Office Managing Partner for DLA Piper, said:  “We are already very fortunate to have such an excellent hospital in Sheffield caring for the region’s sick children. We are delighted to help the hospital in its vital research work.”

The legal services provider has been joined by Sheffield-based B. Braun Medical, part of one of the world’s largest health care companies. The company, which has its UK headquarters at Thorncliffe Park has sponsored a giant snowflake for the third year running.

David Vernon-Edwards, Director of Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “The snowflakes always make our Children’s Hospital a superb city landmark for the whole of December and we are very grateful to companies such as DLA Piper and B.Braun Medical who support the appeal.

“All the money raised will fund vital medical research into conditions such as brittle bones, asthma and genetic disorders, to help us build a brighter future for our region’s children.”
