Westfield Health Chairman Graham Moore is urging local businesses to follow his lead and show their support for the 31st Westfield Health British Transplant Games.

It was announced in November last year that Sheffield will be the host city for this year’s Games, which are due to take place at venues across the city in August.

The Lord Mayor of Sheffield is hosting an engagement event on Monday February 4 at the Town Hall, where businesses can learn more about the Games, the Star Donor Run, the Organ Donor Register (ODR) campaign as well as donation and sponsorship packages.

He said: “It is a major honour for Sheffield to be chosen to host the Games, one of the biggest annual multi-sports events in the UK. With almost 1,000 recipients of a life-saving organ transplant taking part, aged between 2 and 82, and more than 2,000 supporters expected to attend, the Games will deliver over £2.5m of economic impact to the city.

“Your support for the Games is vital to its success. Organ transplants save lives – maybe your life, your child’s life, maybe the life of a colleague or employee. The Games are a means to an end. Our goal is to add 25,000 new names to the Organ Donor Register in South Yorkshire, so join us and help give the gift of life.”

There are many different ways to support the Games, which are organised by the charity Transplant Sport UK (TSUK). Companies, organisations and individuals can get involved with the following:

The Star Donor Run: Individual or team entries available for the 3km or 5km event.

Organ Donor Register Campaigns: In order to reach the target of 25,000 extra names on the ODR in South Yorkshire as a direct result of hosting the BTG, companies and individuals can commit to staging an ODR campaign.

Donations and/or Sponsorship Packages: Donations however large or small are always welcome by TSUK. Sponsorship packages are available for in-kind or cash support and can be tailored to meet your objectives – for example city branding, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

In attendance at the Games engagement event will be representatives from TSUK, Westfield Health, Sheffield City Council, The Star newspaper, the business community, transplant athletes, members of the media and charity organisations.  We hope this event will also provide you with a networking opportunity.
