Sheffield’s newest educational college is set to improve its disability access after a £10,000 donation from Westfield Health.
Freeman College is a further education charity that teaches young people with autistic spectrum disorders and developmental delay. It is based at the historic grade II* listed Sterling Works and Butcher Works in the heart of the city. Westfield Health Chairman Graham Moore was given a guided tour of the college and was soon in the thick of the action as students helped him to make a pewter cast of his hand and forge a spoon. David Heugh, Director of Fundraising at Freeman College, said: “We can’t thank Westfield enough for this donation, which will go towards essential disability access at the new flagship site at the Sterling Works and Butcher Works. “This donation is the second Westfield has made to the college, having previously sponsored the minibus, and we are very appreciative for Westfield’s continued support and link with the college.” Graham Moore said: “It is a pleasure to assist such a wonderful charity that not only helps young people with learning difficulties, but also puts something back into the local community and re-energises traditional Sheffield skills. “The new development at the Sterling Works and Butcher Works is absolutely tremendous. I really enjoyed the activities on offer at the Freeman College business away days, and I know Westfield staff will be itching to have a go at our next away day.”
