A Sheffield finance director has been officially recognised as being in the UK’s top four per cent of eminent young business leaders under the age of 35.
Stephen Mitchell, who works for Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, has been nominated for an entry in the prestigious ‘Who’s Who of Britain’s Business Elite – Young Business Leaders’ publication which is due out in February.
Stephen, at 28 the youngest Chamber of Commerce director in the UK, says: “It was quite a shock when Who’s Who approached me – but a very pleasant one!
“I’m taking my Who’s Who entry as a very positive sign that the good things the Chamber has been achieving recently, some of which I’ve been involved in, are being noticed on a national scale.”
Stephen’s rise through the Chamber ranks has been meteoric. He joined them in 2004 as business development manager for South Yorkshire International Trade Centre (SYITC) before becoming the Chamber’s company secretary and, a year ago, finance director.
After graduating in accounting and finance from the University of the West of England. Bristol, Stephen’s first job was working for humanitarian charity Medair in Switzerland, overseeing projects aimed at bringing relief to countries stricken with war, famine and drought. His duties took him to Kosovo, Kenya and Uganda.
An invitation to appear in Who’s Who recognises distinction and influence, according to directory compilers. The books are a record of achievement and highly regarded for their quality and editorial integrity.
Other newcomers to Who’s Who directories in 2008 include writer, director and producer Armando Iannucci, chief executive of high street stores Knickerbox and Ann Summers Jacqueline Gold and editor of men’s magazine GQ Dylan Jones.
