Clyde Bergemann Doncaster (CBD) UK has secured a £26 million contract - the largest materials handling contract in the firm’s 34-year history.

The company, in partnership with colleagues in Australia, won the contract to provide a state-of-the-art ash handling solution for the Eraring Energy coal fired Power Station located near Sydney, New South Wales.

Running until November 2010, the project will see the company create a state-of-the-art ash handling plant, together with a high concentration slurry discharge system for Eraring Energy, one of Australia’s largest electricity generation companies.

The deal coincides with CBD moving into new offices at Lakeside, Doncaster, following the appointment of five employees in the last 12 months, with further jobs opportunities expected as the company continues to increase its activities and global market share.

CBD clinched the deal following financial support from South Yorkshire International Trade Centre (SYITC) via the Targeted Export Support Scheme (TESS).

This has assisted CBD to develop a route into the power generation market in Australia by attending events in the country and through the production of promotional material.

CBD are part of the Clyde Bergemann Power Group (CBPG) and is regarded as the Group’s materials handling centre of excellence in the UK.

Craig Buckley, Sales Manager for CBD, said: “This is a massive contract for the company and the Group. It will enable us to reach the next level of development as the organisation continues to grow and expand.

“The future with Clyde Bergemann Doncaster looks very secure and we are all confident that the business will continue to evolve and stay one step ahead of our global competition.

“We believe we captured Eraring Energy’s attention and confidence from the outset, with our ability to react and offer multiple options to meet their needs. This was supported by assistance from SYITC and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) who have been extremely helpful in acquiring this deal.

“Any support in funding to expand our international business is always welcome as breaking into a new market abroad is a difficult procedure to under-take.”

Mick Jones, International Trade Advisor at SYITC, added:  “It has been a pleasure to work with the company who recognises the benefit of international trade support network.

“Clyde Bergemann has been an active supporter of SYITC events helping other exporters by sharing their knowledge.”

CBD has an extensive overseas operations, which has also received support from SYITC. The company recently secured new sales of £11.7m in Spain, £8.3m from Italy and is also confident of a potential order worth £10m in Russia.

The Doncaster firm is also working with the UKTI's High Growth Market Specialists pursuing an opportunity in Vietnam and have engaged with opportunities in Turkey, the Middle East, India and South Africa.

The South Yorkshire International Trade Centre is supported by a three-year £7.41million funding package issued jointly by Yorkshire Forward, the European Regional Development Fund and UK Trade & Investment under contract with Business Link South Yorkshire.

The centre provides essential international trade related services including expert advice, market information, research and grant support.
