Good health!
That’s Sheffield Chamber’s wish for its staff as it signs up to support a new well-being initiative in the city. The five year scheme, coordinated by Sheffield Primary Care Trust, will support businesses by helping staff to get fit and stay healthy.
Additionally, it hopes to improve local health and health services, but also to reduce the gap in life expectancy within Sheffield, as studies show there is a 14 year difference in life expectancy between the best and least well off neighbourhoods in the city'.
The initiative wants employers to help:
- Stop staff smoking
- Keep staff active
- Encourage healthy eating
- Support mental health
- Monitor alcohol and drug consumption
Chamber chief executive Nigel Tomlinson said: “I’m sure everyone – employers and employees alike - could improve in one area of the programme, but might be unsure how to go about it. This initiative is a positive step for a healthy and happy workforce.”
Jan Sobieraj, chief executive at Sheffield Primary Care Trust, said: “Achieving Balanced Health for Sheffield will only be possible through the continued efforts of all agencies and organisations. There are some simple measures that every organisation can take, if they not already actively involved.
“We are delighted Sheffield Chamber is supporting us - hopefully it will lead the way for other organisations to become a part of the programme.”
