Shooting Stars Women in Business
Young Guns Meet Great Guns
About the event:
Following the great 4 Chambers Women in Business events of 07/08, this promises to be another fantastic event, with an opportunity to hear inspirational speakers and network with business people from all over the region.
Please note: This event is open to both men and women.
Speakers:
Ruth Amos - StairSteady
Ruth Amos is an inspirational young entrepreneur, at 16 whilst still at school and as part of her GCSE studies she designed her product StairSteady in response to a teacher challenge. So good was the idea that she was voted Young Engineer for Britain 2006 with the idea. And it didn't stop there. Local business Advanced Engineering Techniques Ltd, Halfway saw the project and spotted it's potential. They offered research and development support, as well as producing prototypes and full use of their engineering facilities. The design has now been patented and the name trademarked.
Ruth launched StairSteady Ltd two years ago to protect the product and take it to market, all of which she has doing whilst studying for A-levels. No mean feat! She now runs StairSteady Ltd full time and organises the distribution and fitting of the StairSteady across the UK.
Come and listen to Ruth telling the audience about her determination to set up her own business at such a young age, her nomination as an Enterprising Young Brit, her entrepreneurial ambassadorial activities through Make your Mark and her plans for the future. A truly inspirational story - this is one Young Gun who is certainly shooting high!
Liz Jackson - Great Guns Marketing
Liz Jackson is a truly inspirational entrepreneur with an extraordinary story! Having left school with just three O levels and very little funding she decided to launch her own business Great Guns Marketing with a £1000 grant from The Princes Trust and a loan of £4,000.
And it's been Great Guns all the way! Today the business turns over more than £3 million
and is growing at a rate of 60% per annum. There are currently eight regional branches
across the UK. An enviable track record by anyone's standards!
What makes this even more remarkable is that Liz is totally blind. The year Liz started her business she lost her sight completely as a result of the eye disorder Retinitis Pigmentosa.
However this did not hold her back from pursuing her dreams..and the dream continues with her latest achievement - she is now the author of one of the UK's top 50 business books - ‘Start-Up!', her very own story.
Find out this and more from Liz as she shares this amazing story..and we haven't touched on her Women Mean Business award, her National Customer Focus award, her MBE from the Queen and her personal message of support from Prince Charles! Certainly a Big Gun and definitely one not to be missed!!
This event is working in collaboration with the other local Women in Business groups from Barnsley Rotherham, and Doncaster with Sheffield being the host chamber and event organiser. Previous years have attracted over 400 delegates.
Kindly sponsored by NatWest and Business Education South Yorkshire
A great business networking opportunity, at a very reasonable price, this is one event you cannot afford to miss! Join us for this motivational informative event in a unique venue.....and be inspired!
