Electro legends added to Sheffield tribute concert line-up

Sheffield synthpop band Heaven 17 have announced they will be joining the line-up for the tribute concert in memory of former radio presenter Dave Kilner.

The trio of Martyn Ware, Ian Craig Marsh and Glenn Gregory, who formed from the remnants of The Human League in the early 1980s, will perform at ‘Dave Kilner - A Night to Remember.'

The event, taking place at Sheffield City Hall on Friday 30 April, has been organised by Dave's widow Shirley and his two daughters Rebecca and Nicola and will mark the launch of a new charity to help local disadvantaged children.

Heaven 17 were instrumental in the popularisation of electro music in the UK three decades ago and their debut album ‘Penthouse and Pavement' is still revered amongst the genre's musicians.

Other entertainment stars and bands linked to Sheffield who have been confirmed so far include Joe Elliot and Rick Savage from legendary rock group Def Leppard, Tony Christie whose recent ‘Made in Sheffield' album was an outstanding success, singer/songwriter John Parr of ‘St Elmo' Fire' fame and impressionist/comedian Jon Culshaw.

Organiser Shirley Kilner said: "We are delighted that Heaven 17 have confirmed to play the show. It's great that so many Sheffield stars want to get involved with the cause.

"We are currently talking to other big names from the city and are very confident of making further announcements in the coming weeks about additional acts joining the line-up."

David died aged 48. Born and bred in Sheffield, who lived in Whirlow was a radio presenter with the best contacts book in the local world of showbiz and sport. He was also a prominent voice at Sheffield United, in fundraising for local charities and even in pantomime.

It was as a DJ with Radio Hallam and Hallam FM that he made his initial major impression. Starting as a seventeen-year-old trainee, he was with the radio station for more than twenty years. He eventually moved to Magic AM before becoming one of the guiding forces behind Peak FM when the Chesterfield station was launched. He then returned to Magic AM.

After his radio career, he became fundraising manager for ‘Help a Hallam Child', running charity balls and other events. All the money raised from Dave Kilner - A Night to Remember will go to local disadvantaged children.
