Business Crime Reduction Centre
Sheffield Chamber in association with People United Against Crime launched the Business Crime Reduction Centre (BCRC) over 2 years ago, and since then the BCRC has helped over 350 Sheffield-based companies with crime reduction assistance. A South Yorkshire based charity, People United Against Crime has a long-standing reputation for working with businesses to reduce the impact of crime on economic growth and development.
The project has established a specialist business support service, to provide small to medium sized businesses with Physical and ICT security advice. Specialist advisers undertake (free) site visits, including a security survey and report of recommendations based on risk and threat assessment. The project aims to provide free and impartial guidance, and being funded by Yorkshire Forward and the European Regional Development Fund, is not there to sell an expensive solution, but to provide a balanced view point, and offer realistic solutions.
Reducing business crime
The BCRC will continue to work with Sheffield Chamber of Commerce in assisting members to reduce crime against business. The bespoke service includes holistic guidance with respect to Physical and ICT security and aims to ensure that businesses have a security mindset.
A drive to install laptop tracking software on vulnerable equipment to enable recovery and remote data deletion in the event of a theft has been very popular. This service is currently free on a first come, first served basis.
BCRC delivers a service to combat the high levels of crime being experienced by all business sectors. The major threats faced by all companies include various types of fraud: phishing, pharming, identify theft, viruses and hacking. Additionally, companies face the threat of losing valuable ICT equipment and, equally importantly, the data contained in them through burglary, arson attacks and criminal damage. BCRC can help businesses mitigate against these threats. Get in touch to arrange a visit today. Contact Edward Dodd on 0114 275 1283 or e-mail e.dodd@bcrc-uk.org
