Transport Forum

What is the Transport Forum?

The Transport Forum at Sheffield Chamber of Commerce exists to further the ‘voice of business' in the region with regards to transport issues. Briefly, its role is:

  • To represent the views and interests of the members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in relation to matters associated with transport.
  • To lobby decision makers to influence all areas of planning, policy, development and resource allocation relating to transport in the region.
  • To provide a single point of contact from SCCI for matters relating to transport in the region.
  • To promote and use members' knowledge to provide advice relating to transport to public and private sector bodies within the region.

Sheffield Chamber of Commerce also produce a 'Quarterly Transport Update' in collaboration with Travel South Yorkshire. You can read it at http://www.transportupdate.co.uk.

What do they do?

The forum undertook a transport survey with Chamber members and has lobbied tirelessly on the top priorities that came from it. The forum was instrumental in pushing for the new ring road which has now been completed. It has recently been pleased by Transport Minister Rosie Winterton's announcement that £663.8 million will be spent on improving Sheffield's roads. The forum are now working closely with the City Council to improve the availability of off-street parking, as well as further develop access routes to the city centre.

When do they meet?

The forum meets on a bi-monthly basis. All meeting dates can be found on the events calendar. Attendance is only open to those on the steering committee, although expressions of interest in joining this committee are welcome.
