Sheffield Chinatown first luxury student apartments to open later this year

Sheffield’s £65m landmark Chinatown development is set to welcome its first residents.

The first luxury student apartments at New Era Square will be ready by August as part of the fast-emerging mixed leisure, commercial and residential development, which includes a 20-storey sky scraper.

One hundred studio apartments will be available this September at the ground-breaking destination between the city’s bustling London Road and the nearby Sheffield United stadium in Bramall Lane.

Features of the high-specification studios – now available for students to sign up as tenants – include a double bed with all bedding provided, en-suite shower room, kitchen area with a two-ring hob, microwave oven, fridge-freezer and small appliances, dining table and crockery and cutlery included.

Every studio apartment boasts a good-sized en-suite shower room.

The living areas will also be furnished with high-quality furniture and floor to ceiling windows will flood the apartments with natural light and provide views across the city.

Additional facilities include high-speed broadband with BT fibre optic WiFi, launderette, which includes a LaundryView mobile app that allows students to see how many washing machines are currently available, 24/7 security via CCTV and fob access, recycling facilities, receptionist on site and access to a 24/7 emergency line.

The apartments are being managed by Omnia Space, which specialises in residential lettings and property management across Sheffield.

New Era Square is set to transform the area and New Era Development Ltd, the Sheffield-based company behind the project, said it will create a “cosmopolitan, international, multi-cultural square that is available to all.”

When completed, the development will be home to a total of approximately 600 accommodation units, predominately 26-30sqm studio rooms, plus micro-flats.

Jerry Cheung, managing director of New Era Development (UK) Ltd), the company behind New Era Square, said: “New Era Square has been more than 10 years in the making so we are delighted to see the first group of student apartments nearing completion. This is a landmark development for Sheffield, the region and the UK and represents substantial investment for the city.

“We want to bring a distinct international feel to Sheffield and the ethos behind the development is very much to create a mixed-use space for the whole community, which will bring people together.

“We are also extremely proud of the quality of the accommodation available and the site will provide residents with everything they need whilst studying in Sheffield.

“As well as the high specification facilities within the apartments, they will also benefit from the on-site facilities in the ground floor retail and dining outlets and have a unique student living experience that will not be found anywhere else in the UK.”

The exciting major project will also include retail units, food and drink outlets on the ground floor, leading out to an open-air square for events. The new KH Oriental supermarket will span two levels and will already be in place in the new building when the first students arrive. KH Oriental has operated in Sheffield for over 40 years and will be an ideal one-stop shop for students living in the Square to buy East Asian snacks and food.

In the second phase of the development there will be business office space, an exhibition hall and a China Business Incubator to enhance enterprise and trade between China and the UK.

Rents for the studio apartments in Phase One of New Era Square will start from £145 per month for contracts starting in September 2017.
