Information About Whirlow Hall Farm Trust

Whirlow Hall Farm is a working farm situated on the south western edge of Sheffield. Its purpose is to provide vital educational work for some of the region’s most disadvantaged children.

In addition to the work we do with mainstream schools, particularly those in the primary sector, we provide vocational courses for autistic young adults and we tailor individual ‘hands-on’ programmes of work for children who have been excluded from school. Whilst learning about farm animals, food production and the importance of caring for the natural environment the youngsters’ chances of finding employment are enhanced because key skills such as maths, communication skills and a capacity to work with others are developed in a practical context.

We would like to extend our programme by funding more residential weeks during which children participate in a range of activities, some based on farming, but others on team building and outward bound. Through this programme, we aim to bolster self-esteem, develop a sense of responsibility and build resilience.

We seek businesses that would be willing to sponsor a school visit. In return, Whirlow can offer volunteering opportunities for employees, a fabulous venue for an ‘away day’ and the chance to visit the farm while the children you have supported are here.

If you would like to make a difference to the lives of children by giving them an educational experience they will never forget, please contact Andrew Cowell via or by phone on 0114 235 2678.
