A note from our president
I agreed to become the Chamber President back in 2018. 6 years on, 1 pandemic later and including 2 years running the Chamber on an interim basis with Louisa, I finally put the chain on in January.
I’m lucky to be able to hit the ground running but also mindful it takes time to find your feet as you take on a new role in a very familiar organisation.
I’ve 3 priorities.
- Support the Chamber as it grows from strength to strength. My focus is on defining the role of the President so those who follow me get the most from the experience and the role grows in profile across the business community and the wider city.
- Priority 2 is to keep pressing on with Sheffield City Goals. My current focus is on working with partners across the city to upgrade how the Council and organisations like the Chamber work more closely together to have real impact across our city. I call this the rewiring project.
- Priority 3 is about making the case for more investment into culture. To get our city buzzing morning, noon and night needs more cash pumped into cultural activities and events. A buzzing city helps to grow the economy and local businesses. I am currently leading on raising £120,000 to unlock over £1m of government funding for local cultural organisations. More on that soon.
That’s just a summary of what I am up to. Where I am needed, I am delighted to represent our members at locally and around the country.
