Employer Support in accessing the Kickstart Scheme
Business support organisations have joined forces to provide businesses of Sheffield a simple, easy to access gateway to access the funding, in the fastest way possible.
Sheffield Chamber have joined forces with other support organisations in Sheffield to form ‘The Sheffield Partnership for Jobs and Skills’. The partnerships aim it to make it easy for businesses to access the services and initiatives available to help local recovery from the economic impact of COVID-19.
The partnership includes Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, Voluntary Action Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield City Council, Sheffield Social Enterprise Network and Sheffield Digital.
Kickstart is the first scheme where we are pooling together to offer one simple gateway for smaller businesses to access funding.
What is the Kickstart Scheme?
The 2bn Kickstart Scheme is designed to create hundreds of thousands of 6-month work placements.
The placements are aimed at those aged 16 to 24 who are on Universal Credit and are considered at risk of long-term unemployment. The scheme is open to any young person looking to get a work placement, including graduates.
Funding for employers is available for 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions. There is also £1,500 per job placement available for setup costs, support and training.

How to apply
Are you a large business?
Large companies, wanting to create more than 30 work placements, can apply for funding directly. Click here for more information and to start your application.
Are you a small business, social enterprise or charity?
Smaller companies, with fewer positions, need to use an intermediary organisation to make a funding application.
This is where the Sheffield Partnership for Jobs and Skills can support you. Together, we have created a single, simple to use gateway for smaller businesses to access the funding, in the fastest way possible.
The process is simple:
- First, register your interest using the button below
- You will then be matched with a representative organisation from the partnership to support you through the process. They will be on hand to answer any questions and ensure you fully understand the process.
- You will be provided with a simple job description template to complete to apply for the funding.
- Once it is complete, it will be submitted into the Sheffield Kickstart Application Hub for submission.
This scheme is for any small business, regardless of whether you are a member of the Chamber or another organisation.
