HS2 & Network Rail Supply Chain Event

Sheffield Chamber of Commerce have brought together HS2 and Network Rail for a unique event for members to explore opportunities within the supply chains of both organisations. Chair of the Sheffield Chamber Transport Forum, Peter Kennan will host the event at Irwin Mitchell’s office in Sheffield who have kindly sponsored the proceedings. The event will start with a welcome from Andrew Tucker CEO of Irwin Mitchell LLP.

The UK Government has committed to spend £55.7bn on HS2, Europe’s largest infrastructure project, with 330 miles of new network. Robin will provide the audience with an overview of HS2, an update on its procurement programme, will explain what HS2 is looking for from its supply chain and how suppliers of all sizes can get ready to be part of Europe’s largest infrastructure project.

Network Rail spend over £7bn per year with their supply chain, the large majority of which is with UK based companies. The supply chain network plays a crucial role in helping to run a safe and efficient railway. Since April 2015 Network Rail have worked with over 4,000 suppliers, 2,500 of which are small to medium enterprises (SME’s). The Network Rail supply chain is divided into two areas: Route Services (goods and services) and Infrastructure Projects (delivery of major projects). Matthew Rice, from Network Rail will provide further information on the opportunities available to businesses in and around Sheffield.

Robin picRobin Lapish, Supply Chain Manager, HS2 Ltd

Robin is responsible for delivering market and supply chain stakeholder engagement across the HS2 project, with a specific focus on leading supply chain management for the HS2 Rolling Stock Programme. He engages with a wide range of stakeholders to communicate HS2 Ltd.’s requirements, build relationships and ensure suppliers remain informed, engaged and ready to compete for contracts.

Previously, Robin worked in various supply chain, procurement and commercial roles at Transport for London and Crossrail.  He is also National Co-Chair of G4C (Generation for Change), the young professional network of Constructing Excellence which champions the change agenda in construction.

Matt graduated with a degree in a Management, Economics and History from Aberystwyth University. He started his rail career by becoming a Maintenance Manager at Network Rail in 2005 and has 13 years of experience in the UK rail industry.

Matt has subsequently undertaken several high-profile roles at Network Rail, including a 2-year role as a Programme Manager for Network Rail Consulting in Dubai, and as Head of Strategic Planning for the London North Eastern and East Midlands Route. In August 2019 he was appointed as Route Director for the North and East Route where he is accountable for rail operations across parts of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the North East of England.
