What is The Master Cutler’s Challenge?
In 2008, Gordon Bridge invited the businesses of the city region to transform a £50 investment into as much fundraising as they could for two local charities.
Businesses could use whatever means they wanted to do that, within legal limits of course. But beyond the law and standard good manners, there was nothing to stop them turning the streets of Sheffield into a giant monopoly game, waxing legs, hitch hiking, or riding a bike for 32 hours. Which is what they did.
The charities then were St Luke’s and Rotherham Hospice, just as they are this year.
Our charities have been proud and grateful to have been supported by the Master Cutler’s Challenge in 2008 and 2016 and since we were last benefactors both our organisations have extended our services and support significantly.
We are both increasing capacity and supporting many more patients and their families, pioneering new approaches to palliative care and developing new services and ways to support patients and their families.
The Master Cutler’s Challenge has become an annual tradition for the local business community as well as for many community organisations. Hundreds of teams have taken part and the Challenge has raised over £1 million to support valued local causes. But it’s about so much more than that end result… the Challenge is a brilliant way to bring together the city region’s business community, community organisations, schools and individuals.
Those organisations, large and small, work together or in healthy competition to raise their money. Not only does the Challenge unite the city and raise vital funds, the experience of joining in is one that rewards businesses and their staff hugely.
In short, everyone’s a winner. We really hope you’ll join us to help make this year the biggest and best yet, so that we can continue to help people at the end of their lives.
This year’s Challenge is the same as it was in 2008 and 2016. We’ll give you £50 and your Challenge as a team is to use your entrepreneurial skills to make as much money as possible for both hospices!
