SYPG present a breakfast seminar featuring talks on the following subjects:

GDPR and cyber security: How will they affect my pension scheme?
Jo Maguire: Jo is a Director at PwC specialising in providing audit, assurance and governance services to pension scheme trustees. In November 2012 Jo was appointed to the executive board of PRAG – Pensions Research Accountants Group. Jo is a trustee for the DH&S Retirement and Death Benefits Plan and chairs the Administration, Benefits and Communication Committee.
Dr David J Day: David is a lecturer, researcher and consultant in Cyber Security working as a consultant with Samurai Digital Security and an academic at De Montfort University. He is also a Special Officer with the NCA’s National Cyber Crime Unit where he advises on cybercrime investigations. As a consultant, he provides GDPR advice, bespoke computer network traffic analysis and performs system penetration and red teaming tests. In 2013 he received written praise from New Scotland Yard for forensic analysis work which helped lead to the conviction of a member of the hacking fraternity LulzSec.
Jo and David’s talks:
Jo and David will consider the data protections and security issues facing all pension schemes. Jo will particularly be drawing upon her experience as a trustee of DH&S Retirement and Death Benefits Plan to talk about the issues facing trustees and employers and how to address them. David will be drawing upon his technical expertise gained as a researcher and consultant to consider how the new GDPR legislation will affect pension schemes and the challenges facing pension schemes to maintain their cyber security.
DC governance: Death of the single employer DC Scheme?
Nick Boyes: Nick founded Able Governance Limited in 2014 and has over 25 years of pension experience including 22 years with one the UK’s largest independent trustee firms, Alexander Forbes Trustee Services Ltd, 14 years of which at director level representing them on many trustee boards. An important element of his role was responsibility for continuing compliance with good practice and regulatory requirements which entailed establishing systems and procedures to ensure effective and efficient governance. Nick assisted in the development of the Pensions Regulator’s highly regarded Trustee Toolkit.
Nick’s talk will consider how the governance landscape has changed for DC occupational schemes and how employer and trustees should react. Nick will look at issues facing single employer DC scheme such as governance, lack of scale and fees, the obligations and challenges facing 21st century trustees including Pensions Regulator initiatives and legislation and options for the future such as master trusts.
The South Yorkshire Pensions Group was formed in 2015 by people who have an interest and involvement in various capacities with corporate pension arrangements in the South Yorkshire/Sheffield City Region. The Group’s objectives are to share knowledge, provide informed and relevant seminars to trustees, companies and professionals in relation to corporate pensions, as well as encouraging greater networking amongst them. This event is presented in conjunction with Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, and includes a light breakfast.
