The Spring Budget will take place on 6th March and speculation has been rife amongst business leaders about whether this is a cynical early sprint by Government towards an election or instead a real opportunity for the Chancellor to set out his financial stall and address concerns that we are now seen as a high tax economy.
Rishi Sunak has tried to quell the election part of the rumour mill by stating that he will not go to the people until end of 2024, but it still leaves the question, what will Jeremy Hunt announce? Possible measures include:
- A possible reduction in corporation tax.
- A move to undo the freezing of tax thresholds.
- A possible cut in income tax for low or middle earners.
- Increases in Stamp Duty Land tax thresholds for first time buyers or those downsizing.
- The abolition or reform of inheritance tax.
