Over the past two years, hundreds of South Yorkshire businesses have told us what skills they need to grow. You’ve been clear: the system isn’t keeping up. That’s why we’re doing things differently.
Over the next six months, we’re writing the next Local Skills Improvement Plan for South Yorkshire, but this time it’s being built around delivery and collaboration, not just diagnosis.
We’re setting up Workforce Development Partnerships across nine growth-driving sectors in the Mayor’s Plan for Good Growth. Each one will bring together businesses, universities, colleges, and training providers to do three things:
- Co-design the skills solutions - shape the new training, apprenticeships, and workforce development offers that fit your industry.
- Unlock investment and influence - your sector partnership will directly inform where new resources and funding streams go, from government pilots to local growth deals.
- Build a talent pipeline that works - connect your business with providers ready to adapt, and influence what the next generation of skilled workers learn.
We know you’ve given feedback before. This is your chance to turn those insights into action and to help rewrite the system, so it finally works for business and for South Yorkshire’s future workforce.
