South Yorkshire’s visitor economy - spanning lifestyle, leisure, hospitality, tourism, culture, heritage and sport - is a major driver of growth, creativity and economic value. Yet employers consistently report skills shortages, recruitment challenges, and workforce capability gaps that hold the sector back.
Over the next six months, we are developing the next Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) for South Yorkshire. This phase is focused on delivery, collaboration and co-design, ensuring that employer insight directly shapes future skills solutions.
To support this work, we are convening Workforce Development Partnerships across the Mayor’s nine priority growth sectors. This session will bring together businesses, universities, colleges and training providers to:
- Co-design the skills solutions
Shape training, apprenticeships and workforce development provision that meets the real needs of lifestyle, leisure and cultural employers. - Unlock investment and influence
Help inform where resources and funding flow - across government pilots, skills programmes, and local growth deals. - Build a talent pipeline that works
Strengthen collaboration between employers and providers, and influence what future workers learn.
To support the discussion, please feel free to review the latest evidence base for the sector:

This session is a key opportunity to turn previous feedback into action - shaping a more agile, responsive skills system that supports both employers and the future workforce in lifestyle, leisure and culture.
