On 4th December 2023, the Home Secretary announced a five-point plan to reduce net migration in the UK. Critically for businesses, this included increasing the salary threshold for Skilled Workers, which will likely impact your ability to hire workers from Spring 2024.

Why attend

  • Salary threshold for Skilled Workers has risen from £26,200 to £38,700, a rise of nearly 48%, although Health and Care Workers are exempt. Notably this is higher than under the pre-Brexit regime.
  • The Migration Advisory Committee has compiled an Immigration Salary Discount List (replacing the Shortage Occupation List) – how can you feed into this into your business?
  • Businesses will find that certain roles with lower salaries cannot be sponsored may require wage rises where there is difficulty in filling certain roles – what does this mean for other employees who don’t require sponsorship? Will you need to implement wage increases across the board?
  • How can you prepare your business?
  • Who needs to know?
