21st High Peak Winter Hike
7th October 2015
Make your mark in the fight for every heartbeat and join the British Heart Foundation (BHF) by walking 17 miles along the High Peak Trail in Derbyshire.
Entries are now open for the 21st High Peak Winter Hike which is taking place on Sunday 15 November. For one day, put aside your regular routine and unite with the nation's heart charity to fight back against coronary heart disease, the UK's single biggest killer. Hundreds of participants will take on the challenge which starts in Cromford Meadows. Helen Wright, Regional Event Organiser for the BHF, said: -We're thrilled to be organising the High Peak Winter Hike for the 21st year. It has clearly shown itself to be a much loved event in the local community and so we hope to see many enthusiastic people eager and willing to take on the challenge yet again this year. -Coronary heart disease is not beaten yet it remains the single biggest killer in the UK. It is responsible for almost 80,000 deaths each year that's over 200 people dying every single day, so we urgently need the people of Derbyshire to support us in our search for the breakthrough that's so desperately needed. Across Derbyshire alone, over 40,000 people are living with coronary heart disease the UK's single biggest killer. The nation's heart charity desperately needs the local community to get on their walking boots and help to raise £50,000 to ensure that life-saving research into this disease continues -A BHF event is the perfect way to support the nation's heart charity, save lives and improve your own heart health at the same time. Entry fees are £20 and is open to anyone over 14, under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The BHF is urgently appealing to participants to raise as much sponsorship money as they can as the entry fee purely goes towards the cost of running the event safely.
