A Picture Is Worth More Than A Thousand Words
26th November 2012
It is often said a picture is worth a thousand words and this is never truer than in the world of CCTV surveillance.
We are all used to seeing television and newspapers reproducing CCTV images in a bid to identify crime suspects. The images are often unclear and suspects may think they have little chance of being recognised and prosecuted. However with modern CCTV systems criminals are left with no place to hide. This has been highlighted by articles that recently featured in a local newspaper. The first article shows a CCTV image taken on a traditional system and was released by police looking for someone in connection with an armed robbery. The second article features an image taken using a High Definition (HD) Surveillance system that had recently been installed by a shopping centre. In each case the police and the local community have been asked to try and identify the individuals concerned. The first article is able to identify the suspect 'as wearing a hat'. The second article features an image where the operator has been able to zoom right into a recorded static camera image and the result is picture that provides very good facial recognition. An HD image has many benefits; it will result in more successful prosecutions through the use of evidential quality images. It also acts as a very strong deterrent to potential thieves as they know that they will be recorded and easily identified. Thesurveillance system that produced the HD image was designed and installed by Avigilon Enterprise Certified Solutions Partner, AlertSystems Ltd. Sales Director, Paul Brake comments -The images really do speak for themselves, and as these systems are totally scalable they can be used by individual sites with one or two cameras, through to systems comprising of hundreds of cameras. There is also a highly cost effective way to migrate legacy surveillance systems to a new digital solution, while retaining existing analogue cameras.- ### AlertSystems Ltd AlertSystems are an NSI NACOSS gold accredited independent security specialist and an Avigilon Enterprise Certified Enterprise Solution Partner.
