Airmaster shine as 75th Ecostars

Swallownest-based family company Airmaster, which designs, installs and maintains bespoke energy efficient heating and air conditioning systems across the UK, has just become the 75th member of the South Yorkshire fleet recognition scheme ECO Stars.

They have received an initial three star rating and are keen to progress to the maximum five star rating. ECO Stars is a free scheme which encourages fleet operators including LGVs, HGVs, buses and coaches to improve efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and emissions and help improve local transport related air quality. Originally established in South Yorkshire in 2009, has grown into a national and international success story with programmes across the UK and Europe Dan Jarvis MP, who is seen here presenting Airmaster with their award, commented, -ECO Stars is a brilliant example of the public and private sector working together to bring about genuine and sustained improvements in both working practices and the environment. It's a scheme that we can be rightly very proud of in South Yorkshire. Lisa Pogson, Airmaster's resources director, added: -Sustainability is at the heart of all we do here at Airmaster. We believe we should be modelling best practise, so we were looking at ways to make additional improvements to our fleet operations. We are completely committed to boosting our businesses performance as well as lowering our carbon emissions and impact on the local environment and ECO Stars has been an invaluable part of this process. Transport & Travel Research and Inmotion! worked together to conduct interviews and a desk study on our current fleet, then we looked at ways to improve on vehicle usage and planning, further building on our own work. I would stress that this is my team's initiative and they are running with it brilliantly. As a direct result, we are meeting sustainability targets for our customers as members of the national Sustainability School, run by the major contractors group and saving money in house. Importantly in our industry, this will help us towards our ISO14001 accreditation. Not content to rest on our laurels, we are now aiming for the top 5 star rating to help with our own sustainability and environmental targets. The free ECO Stars scheme is part-funded by the government's Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) which helps local businesses to make better use of travel time, reduce fuel and vehicle maintenance costs, encourage more environmentally-friendly and healthier ways of getting to work.
