4th November 2014

It's all down to good engineering and morale boosting food inspired celebrations! The team at the Sheffield-based President Engineering Group were one of Yorkshire and Humber regional winners in the British Chambers of Chambers of Commerce Awards.

They reckon their mouth-watering treats on achieving targets have contributed to their business success. And of course food was on hand when the company celebrated winning the Manufacturer of the Year title in the awards showcasing the pivotal role local businesses play in the UK's economy. Financial Director Marie Cooper said: -The food often bacon butties is a reward to everyone in the team when we reach our targets we've been keeping the local café quite busy recently! President Engineering Group Ltd, with headquarters at President Park, Sheffield, is a world leading supplier of specialist components and safety systems to the industrial gas and energy industries worldwide. It was formed in October 2010 when the Conflow and Bestobell Valves businesses were purchased in a management buyout from Flow Group by the current senior management team - Managing Director Mark Henley, Operations Director John Waddington and Marie. The acquisitions consisted of a manufacturing and distribution unit in Sheffield (UK), a distribution unit in Pittsburgh (USA), and a manufacturing unit in Ahmedabad (India). In November 2012 President Engineering Group acquired Bretby Gammatech Ltd a niche provider of coal monitoring products. The move not only provided significant benefits to both PEGL and Bretby Gammatech but increased President Engineering's credentials in the global mining market. The natural fit and pooling of all resources of the three businesses has brought rewards. Staff numbers have increased from 76 to 100, the number of apprentices has risen and turnover has almost doubled to £20m. The Group is a global operation with key markets in Russia, China and Brazil. Marie added: -The strategic focus of PEGL is very simple - to be the name and first choice supplier in our chosen market sectors, providing our customers with products and services that improve their performance, that in turn provides growth for our business. Having won the regional title, President Engineering Group Ltd now go forward to represent the Yorkshire and Humber in the national finals, which take place in London in November at the Pavilion at the Tower of London. The finals are supported by BT Business, The Business & IP Centre, Composite Legal Expenses, Dell, DHL Express, Heathrow Airport, NFU Mutual, Westfield Health, Utilitywise and Qdos Consulting. Nora Senior, President of the British Chambers of Commerce, said: -As the UK economy continues to go from strength to strength, it is great through the awards to meet so many inspirational businesses in our network that are tirelessly driving the growth agenda. Their determination and creativity, and the positive impact they are having on their local communities never fails to impress me. -These businesses are hungry for growth, constantly seeking new opportunities in local and global economies, creating new products for market, and sharing best practice with their peers. These businesses play a crucial role in creating a balanced and prosperous economy, and one that is admired on the global stage. Sheffield Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Richard Wright said: -This is a great achievement and we wish the team at President Engineering good luck in the nationals. Sheffield and its region has a tremendous history in manufacturing and engineering and to reach this stage helps remind everybody that we are more than just our past we are the future as well.
