Apprenticeship levy to be debated at Magna business event

15th September 2016

The implications of the new apprenticeship levy will be debated during Magna's South Yorkshire in Business event later this month.

Andrew Hartley, business development director at The Sheffield College, will take to the stage to discuss how the levy, which comes into place early next year, links in with the skills development priorities for the region. Other confirmed speakers include Steve Smith, criminal lawyer at Wilford Smith Solicitors; Steve Mehdi, creator of the landmark Yorkshire Man of Steel; and a representative from the Peel Group, which owns Doncaster Sheffield Airport. South Yorkshire in Business takes place on Thursday 29th September and is designed to help businesses build relationships across the region. It is supported by the three chambers of commerce covering Barnsley and Rotherham, Sheffield and Doncaster. The event, sponsored by the Sheffield City Region Growth Hub, Doncaster Sheffield Airport, Swift Print and Work-Wise, runs from 8am - 3pm and features up to 100 exhibitors. There will also be networking opportunities available throughout the day, and a Chamber members-only networking breakfast takes place at 7am. South Yorkshire in Business will be held in the venue's Big Hall and follows on from the success of the Inspiring Yorkshire Business event held earlier this year. Magna's chief executive John Silker said: -We're delighted to have secured four brilliant speakers, who will focus on a range of current topics that we're sure will be of great interest to businesses. -South Yorkshire in Business will provide businesses from across the region with a great opportunity to come together, build contacts and develop relationships with each other. Bookings are still being taken for the last remaining exhibition stands - contact the Magna Events Team on 01709 723118. Chamber members will receive a 25 per cent discount. Magna, which is housed in the former Templeborough steelworks near junction 34 of the M1, hosts corporate events for brands including Mercedes, Royal Mail, Kia Motors and HSBC, and has the capacity to cater from five people up to 5,000.
