Apprenticeships Be Inspired

8th January 2014

International Hall, Ponds Forge Sheffield Tuesday, 4 March 2014: 2pm 8pm Supporting businesses to identify future talent is one of the City Council's key objectives.

We also want young people to be better informed about the types of jobs and work-based training available to them. With this in mind, our Opportunity Sheffield team has developed pathways to employment for the city's young people that better connects them to the labour market and local job opportunities. The programme provides the following: • Work Experience from 14 years of age because we believe that this can both inspire young people's career choices and help businesses to engage with schools • Labour Market awareness - a targeted approach to improving young people's awareness of the wide range of jobs and the skills demand that exists within the local economy • Linking students to prospective employers in their final year of GCSEs and A Levels • Apprenticeships helping employers to advertise and recruit apprentices, to understand apprenticeship funding and the training available, as well as providing ongoing support once a young person has begun an apprenticeship. On the 4th March 2014 we are providing businesses with the opportunity to meet over 2,000 students in their final year of GCSEs and A Levels . This is an opportunity for Sheffield businesses to: • consider becoming involved in the city's work experience programme • showcase job and training opportunities • promote current or future apprenticeship opportunities • interview potential candidates. If you would like to get involved in this unique free event, please register your interest by emailing kerry.moon@sheffield.gov.uk or calling 0114 2296179. Deadline for responses: Friday, 20th December If you would like to know more about offering work experience placements, please contact Ed Dawson by emailing edward.dawson@sheffield.gov.uk or calling 0114 2053254.
