Awards double for Fitness Unlimited

17th March 2016

Two Fitness Unlimited gyms have been named the best in South Yorkshire after picking up first and second place in an industry competition.

Ponds Forge International Sports Centre was crowned The Star's Gym of the Year 2016 and Concord Sports Centre was runner-up. Hundreds of readers cast their votes to help the Fitness Unlimited facilities beat off competition from almost 100 gyms across the region to claim the sought-after awards. Ponds Forge's new, multi-million pound gym features a Wellness System and MyWellness Cloud equipment to track fitness development, dynamic pressure-sensitive lighting, a state-of-the-art functional training area and a sound Prama system which brings the gym's floors and walls to life. It is one of the first gyms in the country to use Technogym bikes and virtual riding systems in its spinning studio. Other facilities include an Olympic-size swimming pool offering aqua classes and newly refurbished changing rooms. Concord Sports Centre's double-height Fitness Unlimited gym has a dedicated functional training area, cable machines and Olympic incline and flat benches as well as state-of-the-art cardio equipment with UNITY touch screen technology, virtual training programmes, apps and internet access. It is also used by patients from the UK's first National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine (NCSEM) which opened at Concord in 2015. Peter Clark, corporate health and fitness manager for Fitness Unlimited, said: -We are hugely proud to have been recognised with first and second place in The Star's Gym of the Year competition. What makes it even more special is that it is voted for by those who use our Fitness Unlimited facilities. -As part of our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of Sheffield people, we are continually investing in the very latest gym trends and technologies. We are continually striving to meet the high expectations of our members and provide the very best fitness experience through great-value membership packages to engage even more people in physical activity. Fitness Unlimited, SIV's health and fitness membership scheme, has more than 18,000 members and runs 19,000 classes each year.
