Be a leading voice for your industry.
1st July 2019
What is a leading voice in business and how can it help your sales? How important is it to be a leading voice in the modern world? With the rise of social media influencers, it can seem a daunting task to compete with some of the most commonly heard names, Grant Cardone, Gary Vee, Oprah Winfrey, Richard Branson, Tim Ferriss, Indra Nooyi among some.
But in truth you don't need to be known by millions to become a leading voice, in fact there are many names we consider leaders of their field that didn't become famous until after their deaths. Vincent van Gogh, Emily Dickinson, Oscar Wilde, Vivian Maier, and Alfred Wegener whose theories on continental drift were at the time disproved but are now vital in helping us understand the formation of continents over time. Being a leading voice is about finding and talking to your audience however big or small. Why is this important to you as a business owner or seller to stand out from the crowd? I realise there's a common feeling that it can be too difficult and a belief you won't get noticed, so in this blog, I want to go over some of the most common frustrations I come across. People just don't listen to me. I guess the main question is, should they? Have you earned the right to be listened to? Standing up saying who you are, what you do and the special offers you currently have is not becoming a leading voice, that's just a salesperson with a sales pitch. Ask yourself, are you different? Do you stand for something that others don't or are not talking about? Or if your message is the same as others, are you telling it differently causing people to stop and listen? It is not the job of an audience to stop and listen, it's your job to make them stop and listen. Be prepared to put your message out there. Don't have that inner confidence Standing up and being outspoken isn't for everyone. Maybe you've become an accidental business owner and being in front of a large audience selling just isn't for you. At times it may seem like a thin line between being outspoken and overselling a product, but being a leading voice isn't about being a better salesperson it's about being passionate for what your product, service and company stands for. Why did you become a business owner? Why do you specialise in your chosen field? Talking about what makes it special and involving people is what I consider being a leading voice. It costs too much. Facebook is free, Linkedin is free, there are even some local networking events that are free. But I understand that not all networking events and online marketing strategies are, and time certainly isn't. But when you monitor the time and cost spent attending events and promoting adverts that are designed to push you as a leading voice, you will begin to see the results it's gaining and how valuable it is to your sales activity. But to do this it must be part of your business strategy.
