Beer business booming as new jobs created at Sentinel Brewing Co.
21st September 2016
Sentinel Brewing Co, the brewhouse, tap and kitchen which opened in May, is expanding with three new appointments, two of them in newly created jobs.
The Shoreham-street -theatre of beer has gone from strength to strength according to founder Alex Barlow, a world-renowned Master Brewer and beer author. And the new jobs will help Sentinel's beers reach new customers, not only in Sheffield, but also Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Derby, with plans to grow nationwide. Chris Palmer, 39, has been appointed Sales Manager and will sell Sentinel's beers to the free trade and wholesale trade, from pubs to hotels and fine dining restaurants -where our beer whether draught or bottled will make a great fit to complement good food, according to Barlow. Palmer was most recently consulting for the Whaley Bridge Brewing Company and has worked for brewers including Titanic and Carlsberg. Born into the food and drink industry his father was a chef / lecturer in Buxton Palmer's background also includes the wine industry (including Sheffield's Le Bon Vin). He said, -I'm especially looking forward to helping Sentinel's wholesale and free trade customers to offer their customers a wider choice of beer to match with food. The UK's food and drink lovers are really waking up to the flavours and sensations from pairing beers that work with different foods, just like consumers did with wine many years ago. With Alex's reputation and Sentinel's products, I'm confident that more people will get to enjoy Sentinel's delicious beers. Jennifer Thomas, 45, joins Sentinel as Accounts and Admin Manager from local institution, Plug where she's worked for over 10 years. Her newly created role at Sentinel will support the business as it continues growing, and enable Barlow to devote even more time than currently to brewing. New deputy manager, Chris Milner, also joins Sentinel this week after their first deputy manager moved to the north east for family reasons. Milner, 33, was most recently working in a pub in Derby and before then in the spirits trade. -I've always drunk real ale, he said, -so I'm thrilled to come to Sentinel where I can be involved not only in serving it to people who enjoy it as much as me, but brewing it too. The new appointments take the total number of employees at Sentinel to 18.
