Benchmark salutes technical whizz

Benchmark Senior Consultant Ellis Ridge had the privilege of presenting the Best Innovation Award at Sheffield City Council's Code Make Win awards at the Workstation on Thursday, 7th July.

The Code Make Win initiative was designed to showcase the best of students coding and digital making projects, supporting young talent by encouraging them to enter their creations. The winning Best Innovation creation was produced by 12 year old Jack Underwood who created a 'Student Essentials' app a solution to pupils every day problems including timetabling, homework reminders and a translator for language lessons. As recruiters in the technical and IT sector Benchmark judged the entries and were impressed by the high standard of application: -At Benchmark we work closely with the IT & Creative industries in Sheffield and were delighted to see such talent coming through in the next generation, as at present we are experiencing a real skills shortage. I was proud to present the award to Jack as it reflects a great ingenuity if he is already creating this at 12 I think he's certainly one to watch in the future, said Senior Consultant at Benchmark Ellis Ridge. Benchmark works closely with grass roots projects such as Code Make Win and Code Club, as well as colleges such as Longley Park Sixth Form College and UTC Sheffield, helping students make informed choices and raising awareness with future employees to the digital employment market and opportunities available.
