Sheffield United have appointed Malachy Brannigan as new Managing Director, the Club announced today.
Mr Brannigan, aged 47, who lives in East Yorkshire, resumes a partnership with Manager Nigel Clough. The pair were together at Derby County where Mal was Vice President, Finance and Company Secretary for nearly five years. His role included all transfer negotiations, football administration, finance, HR, IT, press, stadium and training ground operations. Previously Mal held senior posts at Coventry City (Finance Director and Interim Chief Executive), Hull City (Finance Director and Company Secretary) and Everton (Commercial Manager). Mal said: -The opportunity to work for a club with the stature and history of Sheffield United, along with the prospect of working with Nigel and his team once again was one which I could not turn down. The ongoing involvement of the McCabe family coupled with the investment made by Prince Abdullah last summer is a firm indication that the Blades have an exciting future. Sheffield United Director Scott McCabe said: -We are delighted to see Mal come on board. He brings great football contacts and the rare combination in the game of operational, commercial and financial experience. SUFC Co-owner Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad said: "Getting Mal in at the Lane is a coup. Mal and Nigel know each other well and worked together successfully at Derby. With Mal heading up our business and Nigel heading up our first team, this club is in great hands. Nigel Clough said: -As a football management team we are very much looking forward to working alongside Mal once again. We had a good relationship at Derby and he deserves a lot of credit for the work he did in his five years at Pride Park. -He has vast experience at executive level and has worked at a number of football clubs. As he understands the balance between finance and football, he will be a great addition for Sheffield United.
