Blades Special Poppy Tribute

The Blades were proud to be able to pay tribute to all those in the Armed Forces before the game against Barnsley on Saturday.

The Club worked with local company and long time Blades signage partner, Pinders of Sheffield, to create a wonderful and colourful giant poppy on the central areas of the Kennedys Kop. Siobhan Whiteway and Martin Herrington of Pinders worked with the Blades Operations Director Dave McCarthy to design the bright red poppy and Pinders have kindly donated their profit from the job to the British Legion Poppy Appeal. The strategic placing of the red, white and black cards was completed over two days, with assistance by a small group of supporters who gave up their time for free to help create the impressive image at kick off. Following the laying of a poppy wreath in the centre circle by the family Blades fans Shaun Hanson, who died in the Falklands conflict, Gary Sinclair read out a moving tribute to the Armed Forces and on his instruction, the 3,500 coloured cards were raised and kept above the United fans heads as a proud and dignified one minutes silence was observed by both sets of supporters, teams , management and staff. Thanks to the assistance and generosity of Pinders, we were able to pay our respect in the closest home fixtures to Remembrance Day.
