Bluebell Wood to bring a splash of colour to homes across the region

Bluebell Wood will be dishing out a much-needed splash of colour to homes across the region as it launches its first ever 'at home' Colour Throw.

The charity will send rainbows to people’s doors after cancelling its flagship Colour Dash event where thousands were expected to coast through clouds of colour at Thoresby Park in September.

Rather than disappoint all those eager to get messy, Bluebell Wood is instead inviting people to shower family, friends and neighbours in a sea of colour – all from the comfort of their own homes.

From gardens and yards to balconies and driveways, supporters can brighten up their outside space and have lots of fun, with Bluebell Wood sending everything they’ll need.

The event will be held on Saturday, September 13 at 12pm to coincide with what would have been the start of the Thoresby Park Colour Dash.

Samantha Wood, Head of Fundraising at Bluebell Wood, said:

“We know there are so many of our amazing supporters who were looking forward to our Colour Dash, and we share your disappointment that the event is no longer going ahead.

“But the safety of all involved has to be our top priority, and we’re very excited to bring our calendar of events back next year when it’s safe to do so.

“In the meantime, we’re going to bring the fun to you. All you need is enough outside space to safely cover your family, friends or neighbours in colour in a socially distanced manner.

“It’s been an incredibly difficult few months for so many of us so this will be fantastic way to bring people together and spread some positivity.”

The charity is asking for voluntary donations to cover the cost of the Colour Throw packs, which will include four packs of the same multi-coloured environmentally-friendly powder used in the Colour Dash.

All those who can’t get involved on the day itself can simply set up their own Colour Throw when it’s convenient for them.

“We’ve seen so many wonderful rainbows over the past few months as people have shown their support for our amazing frontline workers – now it’s time for you to be the canvas!” added Samantha.

“Whether you’re miles apart or next door neighbours, there are so many ways you can get involved. As well as sharing the fun with family, friends and neighbours, we’ll have an online community where people can share pictures, chat and compare who’s the most colourful.

“All we’re asking for in return is a voluntary donation to cover the cost of the packs.

“Like most charities and organisations, we’ve had to cancel the vast majority of our events this year to keep people safe. So anything at all you can do to help us support local families at a time when they need us more than ever would make a huge difference.”
