Bluebell Wood's much-anticipated Light up the Lake event delayed until September

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice has announced that its much-anticipated Light up the Lake event has been rescheduled following the four-week delay in the easing of Coronavirus restrictions.

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice has announced that its much-anticipated Light up the Lake event has been rescheduled following the four-week delay in the easing of Coronavirus restrictions.

The event -  which offers people the chance to celebrate someone who’s brightened up their life by dedicating a candle-lit lantern in their name - was originally due to take place on July 17th in line with previous government guidance.

With hundreds already signed up to remember and celebrate loved ones, the charity is pleased to announce that Light up the Lake has been rescheduled for the 18th September.

All those who make a dedication will have the chance to watch their lantern floated out onto Manver’s Lake, Wath-upon-Dearne in what promises to be a spectacular and poignant display under the setting sun. The eco-friendly lanterns will be securely attached to rafts, and collected after the event, to make sure they pose no threat to the environment.  You can make a dedication and book your place here www.bluebellwood.org/lake.

While Bluebell Wood would love supporters to join them at the rescheduled event to enjoy the stunning spectacle, for those who’d rather not attend the ceremony in person, there will be a ‘virtual’ alternative so they can watch their dedication floated out onto the lake from the comfort of their home.

Beth Cole, Events Fundraiser at Bluebell Wood, said: “We appreciate that this may be disappointing to those who were looking forward to remembering and celebrating loved ones this July, but the safety of all involved has to be our top priority.

“That’s why we have taken the decision to postpone the event to make sure all those who want to attend the event itself are able to take part.

“After a year in which the majority of our fundraising events have been cancelled, we’d encourage our supporters to remember that special someone by taking part in our Light up the Lake appeal.  We’re very much looking forward to thanking our supporters for their generosity in person once again on the 18th September.

“As a charity we need to raise over £5m each year to be there for the families who need us, so every donation to our Light up the Lake appeal really does make a huge difference.”
