Bumper events programme for Move More Month

14th June 2016

A bumper programme of more than 160 events and activity sessions for all ages and abilities has been announced as part of Sheffield's inaugural Move More Month.

Throughout July, people in Sheffield can sign up to take part in a range of free or discounted events to clock up Move More points. Move More Month, supported by Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill, is aiming to get 50,000 Sheffield people recording their physical activity via an app or website in July in the run up to the Rio Olympics this summer. Movements can be logged on smart phones by a new Move More app, which automatically tracks activity and clocks up users' Move More Minutes, for each minute of activity. There is no need to press start and stop, just carry your phone and 'move more'. The public can also see their movements on a Move More website, where Move More Minutes will be converted to points. We hope this inspires people to move more. Sir Andrew Cash said: -Move More Month is a great initiative which Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is proud to support. Encouraging people to lead more active lifestyles is vital in helping to make Sheffield a healthier city. -It is fantastic to see so many organisations working together to provide that little bit of extra support to motivate people to move more. I hope as many people as possible will get involved to prove that Sheffield is one of the most active cities in the UK.
