Business event brings South East Asia to South Yorkshire

Representatives from fast-growing South East Asian markets are paying a visit to Sheffield to build relationships with city region businesses at ground level.

Guests from Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia will meet local firms at the free Meet and Build The Overseas Business Network event, hosted by South Yorkshire International Trade Centre (SYITC). The event on March 2 will be the fifth in a series of Overseas Business Network (OBN) events held by the SYITC, which is part of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce. More than 150 companies from across the city business region attended four of the trade events last year, which brought key officials from more than 19 countries to the city. Nick Patrick, head of international trade at SYITC, said: -Our guests from these fast-growing markets are visiting Sheffield to forge relationships with local businesses at ground level, providing valuable business-to-business knowledge and advice. -Businesses across South Yorkshire are invited to come along and mingle with these OBN contacts and make personal connections with a view to boosting their export potential. Global trade help and advice will be also on hand at the event from SYITC partners including Sheffield International Freight Terminal 512 who can advise on freight management, Finch Insurance on international insurance and Hill Dickinson on international law. Good Travel will provide participants with a steer on corporate travel management, while UHY Hacker Young can assist with international accountancy. The OBN Initiative has been developed by the British Chambers of Commerce in conjunction with the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, SYITC and Yorkshire & Humber Chamber of Commerce. 'Meet and Build' will include introductions, lunch, networking and one-to-one meetings. The free event will be held at the Chamber's Albion House headquarters between from 11:30am to 3pm.
