26th February 2014

Business leaders from across the Sheffield City Region have given their backing to the creation of new flights from Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield.

UK Regional Airline, LinksAir, announced it will base an aircraft at Doncaster Sheffield Airport launching new routes to Belfast City and the Isle of Man. Business friendly flight times have been developed in order to allow corporate travellers to arrive at the Northern Ireland capital by 08:15am most weekdays, with return flights at 12:25pm and 18:25pm. Belfast City Airport is just 15 minutes away from the city centre and the route starts from 7 April. Meanwhile, the new Isle of Man service, which will commence on April 14, is set to operate on a Monday, Friday and Sunday, allowing for short leisure breaks and business trips. The route will be running ahead of the TT races which take place May 24 6 June. Tim Hale, chair of the Sheffield Chamber Transport Forum and Chairman of Champion Hire Ltd, said: -The announcement from Doncaster Sheffield Airport is another step in the right direction. Coupled with the road access improvements that FARRRS will bring, this will enhance the offer for the Sheffield business community. We look forward to further connection announcements before too long." Richard Wright, executive director of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, added: -This is a welcome development and underpins the commitment to develop Doncaster Sheffield as a resourceful business airport -This is an important facility to the regional economy and we need to use its freight capability, and that of the new inland port, to develop a comprehensive service to businesses. Dan Fell, deputy chief executive of Doncaster Chamber of Commerce, commented: -Belfast is an important location for many companies across the Sheffield City Region. It's good to see flight times have been developed around the needs of businesses and allows individuals to arrive at their destination before 9am. -The development of the new routes is excellent and a culmination of a lot of hard work behind the scenes at the airport to build more business connections from the region. Flights to both Belfast and the Isle of Man can be booked with immediate effect on www.linksair.co.uk, via our customer services team on 0844 800 2411 or via your local travel agent.
