Central Technology - A Different Approach to IT

3rd October 2012

Central Technology, this month celebrates a decade in business.

From humble beginnings in 2002 with just two staff and one contract, this fresh, forward thinking Chesterfield based IT and Communications support business has defied the current economic climate and grown steadily over the past 10 years through sheer hard work, a passion for technology and a little bit of luck. Today the thriving business employs over 20 staff and provides the latest and most exceptional IT services to over 200 customers in Derbyshire, South Yorkshire and the Midlands region.  The impressive, diverse portfolio of clients includes Radius Systems, trade association NAPIT, Elliot Mather Solicitors and historic Haddon Hall to name but a few. Whilst IT support remains at the heart of the business, Central has seen a dramatic shift over the past five years from customers both big and small, demanding a single point of contact for unified IT and Communication Solutions.  Put simply, this means offering customers the best broadband, telephone and IT solutions from one provider that is tailored specifically to suit every unique business. Central Technology responded to this growing need by investing heavily in building its own infrastructure, utilising a network of data centre's, allowing clients, at whatever level required, to realise the benefits of having 'one point of contact' for all their IT and communications needs.  This also includes offering customers IT Support, Cloud Solutions, Unified Communications, Infrastructure (design, supply and installation) and Disaster Recovery solutions. This provides any customer with a fresh, simple and reliable approach to managing IT, saving money and time and allowing business leaders free up their valuable time to drive their own business forwards. Central also knows how important it is for UK businesses to want and to have their data and services stored securely in the UK.  This ensures help is only a phone call away allowing for a more speedy recovery in the event of a failure.  Central's customers can rest assured that the company's network is built for complete resiliency with total fail safe back up which is in place both on and off site, ensuring the client's business is always moving. Founded by two young entrepreneurs, Richard Thompson and Christopher Barr ten years ago, Central has since grown under the guidance of Managing Director Ian Snow who has helped the company to become a leading provider of fast, reliable and cost effective IT solutions.  Ian's savvy business knowledge and ability to spot an opportunity, together with the technological know how of Chris and Richard has been the perfect business cocktail, seeing the business setting standards in the region for a more unique approach to working with an IT support company. Ian Snow remarks, We've worked hard over the last five years and invested heavily in our team, infrastructure and services to bring our customers the best IT services, peace of mind and cost effective solutions.  All the staff employed by Central Technology have achieved the highest industry accreditation exams.  This experience, combined with services offered and the approachable nature of the team have helped us to achieve an enviable 98% client retention rate, providing testament to Central's ability. As more businesses move towards the Cloud, with solutions and services held in data centre's, there is an obvious shift towards customers buying less hardware and requiring less regular on-site visits to maintain servers.  Many businesses don't have the in-house expertise to move to the Cloud, but here at Central we can deliver an end-to-end service by designing the system the business needs and carrying out the migration. IT security and fraud prevention is of paramount importance to Central Technology and their customers and this is something which is not taken lightly.  Central Technology is well placed with three data centres providing impenetrable back-up and infrastructure, systems and procedures that are already 27001 compliant being one of only 500 companies in the UK which have achieved this status. Central Technology also predicts a big move in the industry towards virtualisation.  This technology is developing fast and being used more and more by SME's to improve disaster recovery systems and make more efficient use of hardware (91% of FTSE 100 companies utilise the technology and use VMware products to do it).  Central Technology is one of a handful of IT suppliers in the region that partners with Cisco as a Premier Partner and is a VMware Enterprise Solution Provider. This specialist knowledge has seen Central provide vital technical assistance larger clients and IT managers require during virtualisation projects.
