Chair, Cavendish Cancer Care. Do you have the passion to make a real difference?

11th June 2014

We are a small, local and independent charity with a big reputation.

We are there to provide families affected by a cancer diagnosis with the practical, physical and emotional support they deserve. We are passionate about improving the quality of life for people living with and beyond cancer and if you are too, we'd like to hear from you. Based in Sheffield but supporting families throughout South Yorkshire, NE Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, we've had a busy year. We've worked hard to make sure we are no longer one of the regions best kept secrets and we have taken a more planned and determined approach to fundraising. We've made great progress and are now looking to appoint a new Chair to take us on the next stage of our journey. What we are looking for We need a person with a passion for what we do who values and appreciates the difference our charity makes to the lives of local families. We are looking for someone who will be inspired by our clients and their stories and who will be proud to tell the world that they are part of Cavendish Cancer Care. Chair, Board of Trustees The Board of Trustees is responsible for setting the strategy and policies for the charity and for ensuring the charity is appropriately governed and managed. We need someone who can help direct Cavendish Cancer Care to build on its current successes and to help ensure its future sustainability. You will have an understanding of governance and management in relation to a small organisation, have an appreciation of the challenges facing the third sector and be genuinely committed to supporting cancer patients and their families. We are interested in speaking to potential candidates from any background or discipline; provided you can demonstrate the qualities and experience we need and can show us how you would transfer your skills to take us forward. The most important this is that you have vision and a passion for a cause. For this role, you have experience of chairing meetings and planning strategically and held a senior position on one or more of the following areas: business management, legal services, HR management, NHS or academia. All roles on the Board are voluntary though we do pay expenses and provide an induction into the work of Cavendish Cancer Care. If you would like to be considered for this role, please send your CV and a covering letter explaining what skills and experience you have to offer to Jane Beatson, Company Secretary, Cavendish Cancer Care at j.beaston@cavcare.org.uk or by post at 27, Wilkinson street, Sheffield S10 2GB. For an informal discussion about the posts, please contact Rebecca Allinson, Chief Executive, Cavendish Cancer Care on 0114 278 4600. Closing date is Monday 30th June 2014.
