Chamber President visits Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park

The President of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce has visited Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park to learn more about the exciting development.

John Hayward, who is Chief Executive of Pressure Technologies, was given an overview of progress made to date and plans for the future, including a tour of the English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EISS) and the public realm areas of the park. He said -I'm amazed at how quickly Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park is taking shape, the last time I was here was two years ago, construction had only just begun on UTC Sheffield and the rest of the area was a building site.  The park has now changed beyond recognition and the walk to the top of the hill gives a great view of the whole park and a wonderful panoramic view across much of Sheffield. -This is a fantastic 'good news story' for the region and one that we should publicise far and wide. Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park has also hosted visits from the Lord Mayor of Sheffield and Master Cutler of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire in recent weeks. David Hobson, Project Director of Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, said: -It was a pleasure to welcome the President of Sheffield Chamber and showcase the transformation of the site into a centre for health and wellbeing research and innovation. -Our aim is to deliver improvements in public health as a tangible legacy of the London 2012 Olympic Games and we are proud to share our knowledge, experience and vision. The next development on Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park will be Sheffield Hallam University's Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre which will begin construction in the Spring. Proposals have also been announced for two further Centres - a Centre for Child Health Technology and an Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Research and Innovation Centre. The delivery of these Centres will build momentum and critical mass in the creation of a new medical innovation cluster that will support the wider Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District and Northern Powerhouse ambitions. When delivered, the cluster will be an asset of national significance that will deliver against the Life Sciences Industrial Strategy ambitions for high-growth world-leading medical innovation.
