Communicating With Your Clients

For many, keeping on top of client communications can seem to be a struggle. In a world surrounded by constant connectivity, your clients may be continually bombarded with a flood of information. With the right understanding and eagerness to listen as well as discuss, you can cut through the noise and welcome clarity in your communications. To begin taking the steps towards communicating more effectively with your clients, it's important that you ask yourself three questions; what does your client need, what do they value and, how can you deliver these elements in a clear and concise way? Here are five simple steps to securing a communication process that keeps everyone in the loop. 1. A human connection You can be personable and still be professional no matter your industry. Ultimately, you're just one person talking to another, which is why establishing a human connection is vital. Conversations about business and work may be formal but adding a friendly feel to the way you present yourself will ensure you can build stronger connections. 2. Mirroring your brand The company that you represent will have its own style, taste and of course, brand ethos. The way you communicate with your clients is an opportunity to share what your brand stands for using language that reflects who you are to let your clients better understand your brand. 3. Understanding channels Technology unlocks new ways of communicating day in day out, but that doesn't mean you should abandon more traditional avenues. Emails and direct messaging can be the perfect choice and method of communication for some, especially for those who always seem to be travelling. For others, a friendly phone call will see that questions are effectively answered. 4. Finding out more All too often, communication is cut short, leaving both you and your client confused about the job in hand. Remembering that it's just as important to ask questions as well as answer them will let you gain a clear understanding of your clients' goals and what they specifically need from you. 5. Following up It's all well and good having the right communication skills to begin with, but clarity will only come if you continually use them. It's vital to consistently keep your clients in the loop. Plan touchpoints, follow up messages, phone calls, meetings or emails to ensure you both know what's going on from the get-go.
