Concrete companies battle it out on the pitch for local hospice

It's crunch time for two rival concrete companies.

They are preparing to clash, but it's for a good cause - in a charity football match at Rotherham's New York Stadium on Sunday 19th May for a 6.15pm kick-off. Organisers Right-Mix, of Coleford Road, Sheffield, staged a similar event at Bramall Lane last year against local Sunday league team, Sheffield Legends, run by one of its employees, and raised £6927.53 for the Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity. This year, their team have decided to do battle with one of the company's biggest local rivals, CEMEX Yorkshire - and the aim is to raise thousands for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, who each year support around 300 children and young adults with life-threatening illnesses; and their families. The Right-Mix squad includes the general manager, Nick Oxley-Roy and Matt Latter. CEMEX representatives include Dom Burke and James Armstrong, as well as employees from across their branches. Said Tom Bradshaw of Right-Mix: -Our charity football event began from light-hearted banter, but when we realised how much we could raise for a local charity, we decided we should try to make it an annual event. -We chose to support Bluebell Wood as we would like to donate to a charity that is close to home. Last year's game drew a crowd of over 100 and we expect this year, with CEMEX involved, there will be far more. Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice Corporate Fundraiser, Matt Sheridan, added: -We're thrilled that Right-Mix and CEMEX have decided to battle it out on the pitch to raise money for Bluebell Wood. Every day we need to raise over £11,000 to keep our doors open for local children and families, and this just wouldn't be possible without the support of our corporate partners.
