Conference Is A Favourite With The Charity Sector

More than 90 people from 63 charities operating across the UK attended the ninth annual BHP Charity Conference earlier this month at Doncaster Racecourse.

Spearheaded by Jane Marshall, a partner at BHP, Yorkshire's largest independent firm of Chartered Accountants and head of the firm's charities and not-for-profit team, the event was a huge success judging by delegate feedback. Jane says: -Our annual conference has become an important date in the calendar of charity and not-for-profit CEOs, finance directors, trustees and senior executives. -The wide range of topics included discussion around what makes a good charity as well as cybercrime, data protection, legal updates and the latest developments from the world of charity accounting, tax and VAT. -Guest speakers included New Philanthropy Capital, a charity think tank and consultancy, Investors in Community, of which BHP is a founder member, as well as numerous experts from BHP's charity team. -Legislation and accounting for charities is constantly changing, so the specialist and practical advice provided at the conference is a vital way of supporting what is a highly complex and specialised sector. Des Scott, Deputy Chief Executive of Sheffield based Church Army who attended the event said: -This was a really useful conference covering a wide range of important and relevant topics and updates. The conference was well run and the BHP speakers were excellent, demonstrating their knowledge and insight of the sector.
